The week, this year
Braj’s Holi is a week-long cycle, not a day — and in 2027 that week runs mid-to-late March. Two dates are astronomical fact: Holika Dahan on Sunday 21 March and the main color day, Dhulandi, on Monday 22 March. Because Holi is the one Braj booking that punishes lateness without mercy:
- Rooms: Vrindavan and Barsana sell out months ahead at festival prices. If Holi 2027 is your trip, book in 2026 — refundable where possible, since the day-by-day schedule can shift by a day (see accommodation).
- A Monday main day means the 20–22 March weekend runs straight into Holi — expect the heaviest possible domestic tourist wave across that whole window.
- Transport locks up: roads to Barsana close to traffic well before the Lathmar events; Mathura’s old city is impassable on the 22nd. Plan expedition-style days (transportation, safety).
Choosing your days
The deep end is Lathmar Holi and Mathura’s main day; the shallow end is Prem Mandir’s flower celebrations and Vrindavan’s gentler temple events. First-timers who want the famous images without the full contact sport often do Phoolwali Holi at Banke Bihari plus Holika Dahan evening, and watch the Lathmar days on a screen.
