The short answer
October to March. Days between roughly 8°C and 25°C (46–77°F), clear mornings, comfortable temple queues. Everything else is a trade-off.

If you’re coming for festivals
Festival dates follow the lunar calendar and move every year — check the specific dates for your year before booking anything.
- Holi (February–March) — the full Braj Holi cycle runs about a week: Lathmar Holi in Barsana and Nandgaon, Phoolwali Holi at Banke Bihari, and the main day itself. Read the Holi guide.
- Janmashtami (August–September) — Krishna’s birthday, biggest in Mathura. Midnight is the moment everything builds toward.
- Radhashtami (August–September) — Radha’s birthday, biggest in Barsana, a fortnight after Janmashtami.
- Kartik (October–November) — a whole month of lamp-lit evenings, the loveliest sustained season in Vrindavan.
The honest recommendation
For a first visit with no festival ambitions: late October to early December. For festival-seekers: pick your festival, then read its guide and book early — rooms in Vrindavan during Holi and Janmashtami sell out months out, at multiples of normal prices.

- November. The weather is cool and clear, Kartik lamps are still burning in the first half, and the great crowds of Holi and Janmashtami are months away.
- Is it worth visiting Braj during Holi?
- Yes, if crowds and chaos excite rather than exhaust you. Braj's Holi week is one of the great spectacles of India — and its most intense. Book rooms months ahead and read our Holi guide first.
- Can I visit Braj in summer?
- You can, but May and June regularly exceed 44°C (111°F). Temples adjust to early-morning and late-evening hours. Only choose summer if it is your only window.
