Getting to Braj
By air
Delhi (DEL) is the gateway — a major international hub about 160 km from Vrindavan. From the airport it’s roughly three hours by road on the Yamuna Expressway, one of India’s best highways. The new Noida International Airport (Jewar) sits closer to Braj and becomes more useful every season as routes ramp up. Agra (AGR), about an hour from Mathura, has a handful of domestic flights.
By train
Mathura Junction is on the Delhi–Mumbai main line, one of the busiest and best-served corridors in India. Frequent expresses from Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin and New Delhi stations arrive in about two hours; trains from Agra take about an hour. From the station, Vrindavan is 30–40 minutes by taxi or auto-rickshaw. Book trains ahead on the official IRCTC platform — sleeper-class adventure stories are better read than lived.
By road
A hired car with driver from Delhi or Agra is the most comfortable option and surprisingly affordable by Western standards. Two rules: agree the fare before you ride, and prefer a driver someone has vouched for. This is exactly the kind of booking help our advisory exists for.
Getting around Braj
- E-rickshaws rule the towns — short hops cost very little. Agree the fare first; a fair price for a cross-town ride in Vrindavan is modest, and drivers quote higher to visitors by default.
- Vrindavan’s old town is walking territory. The lanes around Banke Bihari are too narrow for anything else. Wear slip-on shoes — they come off at every temple.

- Mathura ↔ Vrindavan is about 30–40 minutes by auto or taxi; shared autos run constantly and cost almost nothing if you enjoy a squeeze.
